Our Preschool Enrichment Curriculum focuses on helping students learn how to write the alphabet and practice their handwriting. Students will learn about the alphabet and basic words.
Our Kindergarten Enrichment Curriculum helps students practice writing words and developing their reading skills.
The Level 1 curriculum is designed around getting students accustomed to writing basic sentences and identifying different parts of speech. Students learn about punctuation, apostrophes, abbreviations, along with contractions and common homophones. They also learn about double negatives and how to avoid using them.
The Level 2 English curriculum teaches students advanced parts of speech, how to use pronouns, and how to use adjectives and adverbs. Students will also learn how to write four kinds of sentences, use direct addresses and quotations, use appositives and interjections, and understand figures of speech. Students will have 10 vocabulary words each week that they will be tested on regularly.
The Level 3 English curriculum focuses on reinforcing writing basics, such as parts of speech, and further develops students abilities to use proper punctuation, capitalization, and verb tenses. Students will also learn about direct and indirect objects, different writing styles, and how to write short stories and essays. At level three, we start passage reading and short form writing assignments into the curriculum.
The Level 4 English curriculum reviews and builds on writing basics and parts of speech. Students learn how to create and use different types of sentences, improve punctuation, and understand different types of writing styles. Students have monthly vocabulary tests based on weekly vocabulary assignments. Students will also be expected to complete weekly reading comprehension passages in order to lay the foundations for the SAT.
The Level 5 English curriculum reviews parts of speech, punctuation, and sentence structures. The focus is on improving writing by identifying common errors and understanding the basics of writing. Students will learn how to create expressive writing, develop descriptive writing, understand entertainment writing, and write for different audiences, in addition to understanding writing styles and usage. Students will have monthly vocabulary quizzes based on weekly vocabulary assignments along with regular cumulative tests on class material.
The Level 6 English curriculum provides students with a detailed understanding of parts of speech, punctuation, sentence construction, common errors, and paragraph structures. Students will learn about and use different styles of writing, such as persuasive writing, explanatory writing, and informative writing, all of which will be expanded into essay writing. Students will also have monthly vocabulary quizzes based on weekly assigned vocabulary.
The Level 7 English curriculum focuses on refining writing and writing concepts. Students will further develop strong thesis statements, build paragraphs, conclusions, and transitions, and proofread and edit their essays. Students will write several types of essays throughout the year and understand advanced English concepts such as mood, tone, and parallelism, among other topics. The majority of the material covered prepares students for SAT level reading comprehension and literary analysis. Students will also have weekly vocabulary assignments.
